The Kano State Government has revealed plans to beautify the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and also construct a Senate building on the campus.

A statement made available to journalists by the Deputy Registrar, Media and Publications, Malam Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, said the Special Adviser to Kano State Governor on Higher Education, Prof. Auwalu Halliru Arzai, dropped the hint when he paid a familiarisation visit to the institution at the weekend.

Other projects slated for execution and captured in the 2024 budget, according to the Special Adviser, include landscaping and beautification works on the Campus.

Prof. Arzai also disclosed that the State Government had prioritised education and as such, it allocated 29.9 percent of the 2024 budget to the education sector, set up a committee on foreign scholarship and embarked on school renovation and training programmes, among others.

“The State Government had also provided funds for the 2023 NUC accreditation exercise, and approved a series of outstanding allowances for the workers of the University,” the Special Adviser stressed.

While inspecting the uncompleted renovation work at the burnt female hostel, Prof. Arzai promised to inform the visitor of the completion of the hostel renovation to ameliorate the accommodation needs of the university.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, appreciated the series of interventions slated for the university within the short period of assumption of office.

Yakasai particularly highlighted the release of funds for the successful conduct of the NUC 2023 accreditation exercise for 24 programmes, approvals for payment of hazard allowance, earned allowance, promotion arrears, upgrade of overhead and huge budgetary allocation to the University.

He, however, mentioned some problems that need urgent intervention including accommodation, especially when the student population is fast growing, the staff manpower and the deficit in the registration fees.

He commended the State Government for its progressive education policies and urged it to consider the staff of ADUSTECH for foreign training in the next batch.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended Prof. Arzai for facilitating a series of approvals for the university since his appointment and urged him to sustain the tempo.

Some highlights of the Special Adviser’s visit include a campus tour to the University library, students hostel, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Agriculture, Central Research Laboratory, ongoing road network project courtesy of Federal Road Maintenance Agency and commissioning of Female Hostel Gate B undertaken by the management.
