The Federal University Dutse is dedicated to collaborating with state security agencies to combat the increasing insecurity on campus, particularly addressing the prevalent incidents of theft and burglary.
Speaking with journalists during a pre-convocation press briefing, held the university co defence hall the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed said it is quite unfortunate the university is experiencing increased cases of theft and burglary of office and stealing of office equipment, stationaries, electrical equipment, water pumps and submersible machines , in which generators and diesel were not left behind.
He explained that, “As part of our efforts to arrest the situation in the university on the cases of burglary and theft as well as to enhance the general security on the campus, we have increased our collaboration with relevant security agencies as well as hiring the services of vigilantes and hunters to improve security situation in the university.”
He assured that the university will equally and adopt drastic measures to solve other insecurity challenges facing the university which includes persistent destruction of the varsity’s fence by the neighbouring community which has made illegal trespass by people and animals which made it very difficult for the university to control the issue.
He further explained that the current economic hardship facing Nigerians forces many to indulge in criminal activities saying that the recent adjustment of registration fees has tremendously helped in one way or the other to solve many problems to some extent.
The Vice Chancellor also revealed other challenges facing the university to include meager amount of overhead grant from the federal government among others.
He however noted that despite the challenges, the university has effectively managed all critical demands.
