House of Representatives member Dennis Idahosa has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, the chairman of the APC Edo Governorship Primary Election Committee, announced this at the end of the election on Saturday in Benin. Uzodinma said that Idahosa scored 40,4483 votes to defeat eight other aspirants in the race. The Israeli military early on Tuesday said it had retaken full control of the border with Gaza. This occurred after Hamas militants breached defences at the weekend and went on a rampage through nearby communities, leaving hundreds of Israelis dead. Richard Hecht, a spokesman for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), said no militant had entered from the Gaza Strip since Monday night but that there could still be some Palestinian attackers on the move inside Israel. The special military task force, Operation Safe Haven, in Plateau and parts of Kaduna and Bauchi states, has arrested 13 suspects over kidnapping, banditry, rustling and other criminal offences.
