The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has completed all arrangements for the conduct of  Feb. 3 Court-ordered re-run elections in three State Constituencies across six Local Government Areas  in Kano State. The constituencies are Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garun Malam and Rimin Gado/Tofa. Amb. The FCT command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has stated that the reports of over 200 persons being kidnapped by bandits between December 2023 and January 2024 are exaggerated. The Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba said the reports were aimed at creating panic among Abuja residents. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd says it recorded a profit of N2.548 trillion in 2022. The national oil company in its 2022 Financial Performance Report posted online described the profit as the highest since its inception in 1977. The financial report stated that it recorded a loss of N803 billion in 2018 and N1.7 billion loss in 2019. The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has expressed commitment to end petroleum products smuggling in 2024. The Comptroller General (C-G) of NCS, Mr Adewale Adeniyi, also said that the service would block all attempts to smuggle weapons and other contraband into the country. The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Buba Marwa, says the upgrade of the agency’s forensic laboratory remains the panacea to enhancing operational standards and optimal performance.
