The Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to provide details of the process leading up to the results it collated in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly Elections. The Convener of the Situation Room, Ene Obi, who made the call during an emergency press briefing, said the process was marred by various factors, as a result, it cannot be considered to have been credible.
Obi also noted that it was expected that the innovative reforms introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), in furtherance of the new Electoral Act 2022, will lead to efficient and accountable election management.
Members of the situation room further urged the commission to conduct an audit of polling units where elections did not take place, to establish the reasons for the failure.
The Situation Roomโs observation and analysis of the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections, also indicates that it fell short of the credibility threshold, it set out as the basis for evaluating the elections, ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
