Nigerian filmmaker cum politician, Desmond Eliot, has cleared the air on the construction of a wooden bridge also known as ‘pako bridge’ for residents in his constituency.
The actor gave the clarification during an interview on TVC’s ‘Your View’ show when questioned about the famous wooden bridge with his photo attached to it.
Sometime in 2020, the lawmaker was dragged online for the low-standard bridge construction and toilet commissioning in the Surulere community.
However, Desmond said he visited the area to commiserate with a mother who had lost her 13-year-old daughter in a canal.
According to him, while on their way to bring back the girl’s corpse in Shitta, the bridge that crossed over the canal was very crumbly and the residents begged him to help them reconstruct it.
The Actor said he gave the community N800,000 for the bridge and they finally reached out to him and insisted on fixing his picture on the bridge to show how grateful they were.
Giving an update on the current situation of the bridge, Desmond said the bridge is no longer in good condition and he has called the attention of the state government to fix it.
