Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim-Olaniyan, the National Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has called for the adoption of N3 million as minimum wage for the Nigeria Police Force.
The PCRC national chairman made the call in an interview with journalists shortly after the inauguration of Kebbi chapter of the committee, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
“If the labour is advocating for a minimum wage of N1 million, we advocate N3 million for police constables.
“This is because teachers and other workers close by 2:00 p.m. but for the police, it is twenty four seven (24/7).
“Going by the Nigerian constitution, police personnel have no right to protest, but if we are to protest on their behalf and clamour for the Nigerian police, myself and my exco, for the constable, we are calling for N3 million minimum wage,” he said.
According to him, the PCRC has been in the forefront of agitating for better working conditions for the police since the establishment of the committee in 1984.
“We are the source of improvement in their salary to this level.
“As the first family of the police wherever they are posted to, we help, guide, encourage and give them all the necessary support in addition to providing credible intelligence that would aid and ease their work,” Ibrahim-Olaniyan said.
The national chairman later paid a courtesy visit to Kebbi Governor’s wife, Hajiya Zainab-Nasare Idris, who is the National Patron of PCRC.
He thanked the governor’s wife for her motherly support and encouragement to the committee and urged her to sustain the tempo.
Responding, the governor’s wife said the PCRC has been supporting the police to ensure security in communities.
She assured the committee of her commitment to addressing moral decadence especially amongst the youths.
“My office in collaboration with National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, National Food Drugs Administration and Control and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons are working to see to how we can curb drug abuse, trafficking and other social vices,” she added.
