Award-winning South African rapper AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, was shot dead in Durban, South Africa at his birthday party on Friday, 10th February 2023.
The Johannesburg-based rapper flew into Durban on the 10th of February for his birthday party which was planned to hold at Yugo Nightclub which he had publicized on his social media pages and invited fans to show up.
Two hours before he was killed, AKA had gone to Fish Restaurant on Florida Road with some friends and his bodyguard and posted his location on his Instagram page. After the meal, he strode outside the restaurant and that was when he got killed shortly after 10 pm.
There are bystanders claiming that someone had walked up to him and shot him 6 times and there are other statements that claims it was a drive-by shooting.They claim that two cars drove by the restaurant as AKA stood outside with friends and shot him dead. A friend standing with him was also killed while his bodyguard was wounded in the shooting.
His friend and colleague, Da Les tweeted briefly after the news of the shooting broke.
