Adekunle Agboola, a 200-level student in the Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Metallurgical and Material Engineering, was killed on Saturday while attempting to rescue his friend’s phone from robbers, according to a statement released by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Tuesday morning.
Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, UNILAG Principal Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit, sent a message of condolence to the family, expressing regret for the incident and stating that the police are looking into it.
โIt was with heavy heart that the Management of the University of Lagos, received the sad news of the death of Mr Al Ameen Adekunle Agboola, a 200-level student of the Department of Metallurgical and Material Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, who died outside the University premises on Saturday, June 3, 2023,โ the press release read.
“The awful episode encompassing his passing is being researched by the Nigerian Police Power, with the full collaboration of the College.
“On behalf of the entire University community, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, commiserates with the family of Mr. Agboola and prays that God grants the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” reads the statement.
On Tuesday, it was learned that the deceased and a colleague who went by the name Opeyemi got on a shuttle bus from Yaba to UNILAG. While they were in the bus, a man who was hanging at the back of it took Opeyemi’s iPhone 7 plus.
